Dr. K. Bernard Chase, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, graduated from Delaware State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1972.  Following a short tenure with Park-Davis Pharmaceutical Company, he entered Howard University School of Dentistry in Washington, DC. In 1977, he successfully completed his requirements and received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.

Dr. Chase began his dental career as a staff dentist at a local health center and was later promoted to Dental Director.  In pursuit of his dreams to own his own business, Dr. Chase opened a private practice in St. Mary’s Country, Maryland where he has practiced for almost 20 years.

Fundamentally, Dr. Chase is an educator, dedicated to the search for truth and power through knowledge.  As the first and only African – American dentist in St. Mary’s County, Dr. Chase spends a lot of his time and resources stressing the importance of total health awareness and teaching good health practices to children and adults.  He has volunteered time in Headstart programs, elementary and middle school classrooms, with community groups and with individual high school students to advise, teach and advocate.  In September, 1999, he was one of four panelists interviewed by Emerge Magazine to discuss the topic “Racism in Medicine.” Overall, he is considered one of the pillars of his community and uses his position to encourage and support those who seek his guidance and care.

In the spring of 1996, Howard University’s Theta Tau Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. paid special recognition to one of its initiates through the creation of the Dr. K.B. Chase Community Service Award.  Named in honor of a highly principled, committed and widely respected member of our great bond, this award acknowledges and honors brothers whose service to the community is especially exemplary and noteworthy.

Additionally, Delaware State University Alumni Association bestowed high honors upon Dr. Chase with its presentation of the 1996 Hall of Fame Award, which recognized noteworthy contributions made in the field of Science and Medicine.  Finally, his tenacity and undaunted commitment was recognized by the national Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education who announced its selection of Dr. Chase for one of its 1997 Distinguished Alumni Citation of the Year awards.

Dr. Chase holds his current life membership with Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. through the Hyattsville/Landover Chapter where he is a charter member.  In that chapter, he has served in various capacities including Reporter, member of the Board of Directors, Committee Chairman, and Ploemarch.  At the province level, Dr. Chase has, for several years, been a member of the Province Council Planning Committee and has participated in a number of the C. Roger Wilson Leadership Conferences since 1982.  Since 1980, he also participated in a number of Grand Chapter meetings.  Over the past 14 years, Dr. Chase co-chaired his chapter’s New Year’s Eve Committee which has raised over $500,000.00 to help fund the Chapter’s Human Endeavors Award (1982-83); the Province’s Human Endeavors Award (1982); the Chapter’s Brother of the Year Award (1988-89); the Province’s Brother of the year Award (1988-89); the Service to the Chapter Award (1990-91); and he fraternity’s second highest award, the prestigious Elder Watson Dlaggs Award (1997).
